French Polynesia is the Pacific at its most legendary. The 118 islands and atolls span an area the size of Europe, and within that expanse are some of the world's most iconic sailing destinations: Bora Bora with its shark-infested but extraordinarily clear lagoon, the Tuamotu atolls (Fakarava, Rangiroa) with drift dives through passes teeming with sharks and rays, Moorea with its volcanic silhouette rising from the ocean.

The sailing here is for experienced sailors or those chartering with crew. Passes into Tuamotu atolls require timing and experience—the currents are strong and the consequences of a mistake are real. But inside the lagoons, the sailing is gentle and the diving is world-class.
