About Mauritius
Mauritius is one of the Indian Ocean's most underrated sailing destinations. A fringing coral reef encircles most of the island, creating a natural lagoon that is warm, calm, and beautifully clear. The sailing inside the lagoon is gentle and accessible; venturing outside to the outer reef offers more challenging conditions and open-ocean encounters.
The island's culture is one of the most diverse in the world—the legacy of Dutch, French, British, African, Indian, and Chinese influences creates a cuisine and cultural experience unlike anything else in the Indian Ocean. Port Louis is a vibrant city with excellent provisioning; smaller villages around the coast maintain traditional character.
Dolphins are frequently encountered on the west coast, the snorkeling is excellent, and the sunsets—with volcanic peaks silhouetted against orange skies—are extraordinary.
